Concerned about the climate crisis and don’t know what to do about it? Spend an evening with Restore Passenger Rail to learn about some of the ways collective action, rooted in nonviolence, can create positive change. Climate Crisis and Civil Resistance is on Thursday 22 June from 6.30pm to 8.00pm here in the Village Centre Church. Restore Passenger Rail has simple demands; the restoration of an affordable, accessible nation-wide passenger rail service and free local public transport. These measures will help in decarbonising Aotearoa and in addressing the cost of living crisis. You can register for this event here.

New Zealand has a history that is rich in stories and tales from our colonial past. Join Village Music for Soirée No 4 of Unsung Heroes, on Friday 23 June at 8.00pm for an eclectic musical celebration of our unique past, all mixed with humour and pathos. Chris Priestley has been steadfastly producing a terrific collection of these stories and creating great songs, using our own colourful and historical cast of characters and tales to inspire the lyrics. In collaboration with Nigel Gavin on guitar, Cameron Bennett on vocals and dobro, Sonia Wilson on vocals and guitar, and Peter Elliot as narrator and on cajon, the band will play a selection of new songs and favourites. As a real bonus, Geoffrey Chunn of Split Enz, Citizen Band fame, will join the crew with his own musical take on the theme, as well as a welcome return of Emily Roughton on violin. Don’t delay, gather your friends and family and book here.
