February 2024

Dear all,

Happy New Year wishes from us at the Mt Eden Village Centre. We look forward to welcoming you back this February for events and classes!

Village Music presents Mark Mazengarb, Katie Martucci and Jess Hindin here on Friday 9 February at 8.00pm. Back in 2019 we were treated to a wonderful performance by Kiwis Mark and Jess with Katie from New York so it is such a pleasure to welcome them back for another magical evening. Buy your tickets here and bring friends, bring family, bring your ears and BYO.

On Thursday 15 February at 7.00pm award winning composer and international performer Nanny Assis brings an uplifting show of Brazilian Jazz, Bossa Nova and Soul Funk from New York to Mt Eden. Together with Blue Note artist Maggie Gould, jazz pianist Kevin Field and bass player Alex Griffith they will get you dancing. Start your 2024 inspired by their fabulous talent. Tickets are at Under the Radar here.

The Mt Eden Craft Market hold their first market of the year on Saturday 10 February from 9.30am to 3.00pm. This is a great opportunity to support local craftspeople and find loads of beautiful handmade treasures and tasty treats, perfect for yourself or to gift. Come and enjoy the market, support New Zealand businesses and help them grow. Facebook for more information.

The Mt Eden Wellbeing Market is here on Saturday 24 February in the Hall and Lounge from 10.00am to 3.00pm and is Central Auckland’s regular monthly mind, body and spirit market with natural therapies, on-site massage and more. The Timeless Preloved Fashion Market is in the Church on the same day from 10.00am to 3.00pm and has a focus on preloved, retro and vintage clothing and accessories. Both markets are here on the last Saturday of every month.

If your New Years resolutions included making small steps for nature, consider joining the rat trappers of the Maungawhau Ecological Halo. Pop into the Village Centre Office Monday to Friday between 9.00am and 12.00noon and if you reside within the Halo area you can pick up a free rat trap and be shown how to use it. The Halo project protects and enhances native biodiversity around Maungawhau Mt Eden and we would love you to join us in intensifying this community predator suppression effort. Check out Urban Ark for more information about this and other predator free groups.

Our Pātaka Kai – Shared Pantry and Book Exchange – is also a small step for nature and community and is operating at the Village Centre for fruit and vegetables and books. Everyone is welcome to take what you need and leave what you can – fresh fruit and vegetables and books only please. Pātaka Kai is outside by the Lounge on Ngauruhoe Street and accessible from the street at any time.

Most of our fabulous weekly classes are back this month so check our events calendar for details.

Ngā mihi/Best wishes

Sallyann Hingston & Ngaire Malpass
