October is arriving with sunshine and warmth in the forecast!

This Friday 9 October join the Albert-Eden Seniors Climate Action Network for a Movie Night: Being the Change. Arrive by 7.45pm for a cuppa and enjoy a night of thoughtful and inspiring entertainment thanks to Happen Films.  The short films are Being the Change at 85, Here is the Māunga, here is the Sea, here is my Kura, my Whānau, and Me, and Degrowth in the Suburbs. This event is part of the Albert-Eden Golden Festival. More information here.

Urban Ark are excited to have environmental consultant Dr Len Gillman here on Thursday 15 October at 6.15pm for a talk about ‘Alien’ Plant Species. Dr Gillman will talk about how urban and rural environments around the globe have increasingly become dominated by ‘alien’ plant species and the impacts this has on native biodiversity and our sense of place. Urban Ark will circle back to Mt Eden with examples of exotic pest plant species in the area. More information and free registration is here.

Date Night in Mt Eden Village is here on Saturday 17 October! There will be FREE babysitting and activities for kids 5+ between 6.00pm and 9.00pm for parents or caregivers dining at participating restaurants in the Village. Registration is essential for these popular evenings here. Proof of dining will be required on pick up. Date Night is organised by the Mt Eden Village Business Association and Bricks 4 Kidz.

Dev Skill Share are here for their Spring tech meeting The Edge of Chaos on Thursday 22 October at 5.30pm. Join them for an evening of ideas, networking and a bit of show-and-tell. Special guest speaker Joe Harper will give a talk on the architecture of AI, host Richard Howell-Peak will be arguing that the Single Responsibility Principle may still be relevant, and stay for a bit of show-and-tell and networking. The Auckland Somatic Dance Collective is here on Friday 30 October at 6.45pm. Somatic dance is a guided free form movement journey deep into the layers of the body, supported by a carefully curated soundscape in a non judgemental space. Auckland Somatic Dance are a collective of certified somatic dance facilitators and DJ’s who regularly offer dances in Auckland. Follow them on Facebook here.

The Mt Eden Wellbeing Market is in the Hall and Lounge on Saturday 31 October from 10.00am to 3.00pmand is Central Auckland’s regular monthly mind, body and spirit market. The market is here on the last Saturday of every month from February to November. Visit their Facebook page for updates here.
