August 2023

Dear all,

As we head into Spring we have a busy August here at the Mt Eden Village Centre, join us for some fabulous concerts, meetings, markets and classes.

We are thrilled that the NZ String Quartet has chosen to kick off their Woven Pathways National Tour 2023 here in Mt Eden on Friday 18 August at 7.30pm. Hosted by Eden Arts, their musical odyssey promises to delight with a captivating evening of chamber music, featuring four highly personal works which express the composers devotion to their culture and influences. The NZSQ are Helene Pohl (violin I), Monique Lapins (violin II), Gillian Ansell (viola) and Rolf Gjelsten (cello). Book here now!

Eden Arts also host NZ’s favourite jazz entertainers the Nairobi Trio here in the heart of Mt Eden on Saturday 26 August at 7.30pm. The Trio have been “resident” musicians at Artists in Eden Day for many years now and also launched the Music in Eden series earlier this year. Tickets are on sale now by emailing info@edenarts.art. Don’t miss out!

The free lunchtime live music programme Music in Eden by the Eden Arts Trust continues every Friday at 12.00noon.  Follow them on Facebook for regular updates. It is time to emerge from our Winter cocoons and take advantage of these wonderful local music events!

The Rest Assured Respite Charitable Trust hosts Dr Rosamund Vallings this Saturday 5 August from 1.00pm to 3.00pm in the Church for a talk about ME Myalgic encephalomyelitis/CFS Chronic Fatigue Syndrome diagnosis, treatment and management. Dr Valings will also cover the similarities between Long Covid and ME/CFS. This is the second in a series of monthly talks to raise awareness in the community around these illnesses. Follow the Trust on Facebook or visit their website for more information.

Climate Crisis and Civil Resistance is a phrase that is finally moving into the public consciousness. Come to a Welcome Talk by Restore Passenger Rail here on Tuesday 8 August from 5.30pm to hear about the campaign to restore passenger rail and why some have chosen to step up to high-stakes action. Come and hear climate activists and local people talk about what we can do about the climate crisis. Register your attendance here.

Join the Auckland Somatic Dance Collective for an evening of Somatic Dance in the Hall on Friday 11 August from 7.00pm to 8.30pm. Somatic Dance is a freeform movement journey held in a non judgemental space. Email AucklandSomaticDanceCollective@gmail.com for tickets or $20 at the door.

Catherine of Anahata Sounds also hosts a Sound Journey here on Thursday 17 August at 8.15pm. Bring blankets, yoga mat, anything that will keep you warm. Suggested contribution $20.

Saturday 26 August is a great day for markets at the Village Centre. The Preloved Fashion Market is in the Church from 9.00am to 2.00pm. Take your time to browse the many stalls selling high quality preloved, vintage and retro clothing and fashion accessories. Don’t miss the chance to get fashion treasures for a reasonable price! The Mt Eden Wellbeing Market  will be here in the Hall and Lounge on the same day from 10.00am to 3.00pm.

The Mt Eden Craft Market is here on Saturday 12 August from 9.30am to 3.00pm. Facebook for more.

We have a Pātaka Kai here outside by the Lounge on Ngāuruhoe Street. A Pātaka Kai is a shared Pantry and Book Exchange – everyone is welcome to take what you need and leave what you can – fresh fruit and vegetables only please.

Ngā mihi/Best wishes
