As we head into Spring we have a busy August here at the Mt Eden Village Centre. Join us for some fabulous events, meetings, markets and classes.
The biggest LIVE painting competition on the planet is coming here to Mt Eden on Friday 30 August from 6.00pm with Art Battle Mt Eden. Come and watch 12 artists battle it out over 3 rounds of fast paced creativity. The audience decides the winner and all artwork is for sale at the end of the night. It will be a night to remember with top DJs and artists, MC, surprise guests, giveaways, great vibes and talent! Tickets are FREE here.
Young soprano Libby Montgomery has a fundraising concert here on Friday 16 August at 7.15pm. Libby Montgomery & friends will be an evening of opera, art song and music theatre. Libby has a life-changing opportunity to study at the Royal Northern College of Music in the UK but to take it on she needs your support. Join Auckland University Press and Time Out Bookstore to celebrate the launch of Becoming Tangata Tiriti: Working with Māori, Honouring the Treaty by author Avril Bell in the Hall this Wednesday 7 August at 6.00pm. Becoming Tangata Tiriti brings together twelve non-Māori voices who have engaged with te ao Māori and have attempted to bring te Tiriti to life in their work. Avril Bell is a Pākeha New Zealander and honorary associate professor in sociology at the University of Auckland. More details and how to RSVP is here.

The Mt Eden Village Business Association and Bricks 4 Kidz have joined forces to provide FREE babysitting and activities between 6.00pm and 9.00pm for parents dining at participating restaurants. Hatha Yoga with Merly starts Tuesday 6 August at 6.30pm in the Hall. Merly is an established Yoga teacher who focuses on Hatha Yoga and will host weekly classes with a difference. Instruction will be in Spanish with some English language support. Your primera clase first class is FREE and yoga para principiantes beginners are very welcome. The Mt Eden Wellbeing Market is here on Saturday 31 August in the Hall and Lounge from 10.00am to 3.00pm and is Central Auckland’s regular monthly mind, body and spirit market with natural therapies, on-site massage and more. This month only a change to the date of the Timeless Preloved Fashion Market which is here on Saturday 24 August from 10.00am to 2.00pm. The market has a focus on preloved, retro and vintage clothing and accessories.
Looking ahead to September, Eden Arts hosts the Mt Eden Chamber Music Festival from Friday 6 September to Sunday 8 September. This popular annual event is now in its ninth year and has welcomed a range of eminent musicians from across New Zealand. Artistic director Simeon Broom has put together a fabulous programme which you can find here.
