One of the highlights of the Mt Eden calendar is here this July along with the return of a great Kiwi musician, support groups and many other events and classes!
The Eden Arts Trust Mt Eden Chamber Music Festival is here from Thursday 2 July to Sunday 5 July. This is a fantastic opportunity to hear and support some of the best professional chamber musicians in the country, right here in the heart of the Village. Festival Artistic Director Simeon Broom has worked his magic again with a wonderful programme including dedications to significant Mt Eden violinist Mary O’Brien and pianist Katherine Austin. BirdCare Aotearoa run our largest native bird hospital in Green Bay, Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland, and General Manager Dr Rashi Parker will be here on Thursday 16 July at 6.15pm. Presented by Urban Ark, Rashi will talk to the question How can our expanding city create greater protection for native birds where habitat areas and human infrastructure meet? Advice from experts such as Dr Parker helps us gain a better understanding of what we can do to create a more manu/bird friendly city. Free but registration is essential here.
The legendary Rikki Morris needs no introduction, he is one of those great Kiwi musicians who is continuously engaged and always a true musical talent. Village Music are thrilled to have Rikki here on Friday 24 July at 8.00pm with a show that will feature the 1988 number one hit Nobody Else as well as many others that have been lovingly archived and remastered in studio. Rikki will perform with his full band including Chet O’Connell on guitar, Chip Matthews on bass, Karl Benton on keys and Josh Sorenson on drums. Rikki’s daughter, up and coming singer songwriter Oni Kidman, will open the show with a short set of her own originals. The Dev Skill Share IT support group is in the Lounge on Thursday 9 July at 6.00pm. Dev Skill Share is a great opportunity to meet new people, make new connections and learn new skills. This edition features talks on Building MCP servers for AI Agents, Deploying Web Applications on Cloudflare and An Introduction to Mutation Testing. Yay! There is still time to register for School Holiday programme Holiday Heroes: I Spy: The Underdark presented by Side Quest. Daily from Monday 13 July to Friday 17 July, Holiday Heroes is an immersive course that emphasises storytelling and critical thinking. Children will develop writing, artistic and social science skills while exploring epic DD gaming narratives. Meet likeminded new friends and have fun! More information and registration is here. The Fashion Market has a focus on preloved, retro and vintage clothing and accessories and is in the Church. Date Night in Mt Eden Village is also here on Saturday 25 July! There will be FREE babysitting and activities here for kids 5+ between 6.00pm and 9.00pm for parents or caregivers dining at participating restaurants in the Village. Registration is essential for these popular evenings. Proof of dining will be required on pick up. Date Night is organised by the Mt Eden Village Business Association and Bricks 4 Kidz.
The Auckland Somatic Dance Collective is here on Friday 31 July at 6.45pm. Somatic dance is a guided free form movement journey deep into the layers of the body, supported by a carefully curated soundscape in a non judgemental space. Auckland Somatic Dance are a collective of certified somatic dance facilitators and DJ’s who regularly offer dances in Auckland. Follow them on Facebook here.
