May 2024

Dear all,

It is a little cold out there at the beginning of May but it is worth venturing out to the Mt Eden Village Centre where there is always something to do!

Thank you to the Chinese Conservation Education Trust for bringing their Repair Café back to the Village Centre on Sunday 5 May from 2.30pm to 5.30pm. With a multitude of sewing experts, electricians, computer technicians and general handy folk (no woodwork specialist this day), they are ready to restore your treasured items back to full use. Items need to be light enough to carry in your hands and the Trust asks that you arrive by 5.00pm as the Café closes promptly at 5.30pm.

Everything is unique at the Mt Eden Craft Market which is here on Saturday 11 May from 9.30am to 3.00pm. This is a great opportunity to support local craftspeople and find loads of beautiful handmade treasures and tasty treats, perfect for yourself or to gift. Come and enjoy the market, support New Zealand businesses and help them grow. Facebook for more information.

Kadampa Meditation have a half day course here on Saturday 18 May from 9.45am. The course focuses on Taming the Mind: How Meditation Can Help Mental Health and you will learn tried and tested methods to cultivate a strong and peaceful mind, and in this way unlock your potential for lasting happiness. More information and to book is here.

The Timeless Preloved Fashion Market is here on Saturday 25 May from 10.00am to 3.00pm. The market has a focus on preloved, retro and vintage clothing and accessories and is here on the last Saturday of every month. The Mt Eden Wellbeing Market is in the Hall and Lounge on the same day and time and is Central Auckland’s regular monthly mind, body and spirit market.

Eden Arts Trust have a new website here which showcases all the exciting things the Trust organises for the community in Mt Eden and afar. You can sign up for their newsletter, join as a Friend of Eden Arts or come for their weekly free Music in Eden lunchtime concert here every Friday at 12.00noon. Follow their Facebook page for regular updates.

We support the Maungawhau Ecological Halo project of neighbourhood rat trappers. If you reside within the Halo area, pop into the Village Centre Office Monday to Friday between 9.00am and 12.00noon and you can pick up a free rat trap and be shown how to use it. The Halo project protects and enhances native biodiversity around Maungawhau Mt Eden and we would love you to join us in intensifying this community predator suppression effort. Check out www.urbanark.nz for more information about this and other predator free groups.

Village Music soiree The Loving Arms in Concert tomorrow evening is Sold Out so we are looking ahead to June. You won’t want to miss out on Matt Joe Gow and Kerryn Fields on Friday 14 June with tickets here.

Ngā mihi/Best wishes

Sallyann Hingston & Ngaire Malpass
