July 2022

Dear all,

July is a great month with the lengthening days bringing thoughts of warmer days. Not quite yet though so visit the Mt Eden Village Centre for something new and pop into a café or restaurant in the Village to make it a lovely outing.

We would love to see you on Tuesday 5 July at 7.00pm for a Free Climate Change and Action Talk with Carolyn Cox from Green Business HQ. If you are concerned about climate change and want to learn some practical ways to reduce your footprint and live sustainably then come along. You will learn more about climate change and about how to measure your footprint. Most importantly you will learn how to create a personal climate action plan in a supportive and encouraging environment. The sessions are designed to be interactive with lots of discussion. Everyone is welcome.

Come and join us at the wonderful Mt Eden Village Craft Market here on Saturday 9 July from 9.30am to 3.00pm. Over 40 stallholders will be showcasing their exclusively NZ handmade products. They have another promotion where every purchase at the Market gives you the chance to win this fabulous hamper of food and drink worth $100. Be in to win and support locally made. Facebook for more.

When things go wrong in our life and we encounter difficult situations we tend to regard the situation itself as the problem. But if we learn to maintain a peaceful mind, we can be happy all the time regardless of our circumstances. Join Kadampa Meditation at The Art of Acceptance on Saturday 16 July from 10.00am to 1.00pm to learn Buddhist techniques to help us respond to difficulties with a positive mind. In this way, we will be able to accept painful feelings, overcome anger and frustration, and discover true inner peace. More information and to book is here.

If you have admired the skill of NZ Sign Language practitioners over the last couple of years, here is your opportunity to learn more. Merge have an 8 week Beginner 1b NZ Sign Language course here starting on Thursday 28 July at 7.00pm. Suitable for students who have done 1a previously, you will spend 8 weeks with a qualified tutor in a small group environment. This is a wonderful professional development opportunity for teachers, managers, staff, customer service staff, individuals (hard of hearing) and families to learn NZSL and about Deaf culture. More information and to register is here.

Looking ahead to August, we’re excited to have Arahi here in the Church for his “There’s Nothing Like It – Piano Tour” on 12 August. Book now for this intimate audience with a trailblazing emerging artist.

Enjoy your July!
