Village Music presents Rikki Morris
Rikki Morris is is one of those great Kiwi musicians who is continuously engaged and always a true musical talent. It’s been over 8 years since we’ve had the pleasure of hearing Rikki play the old Mt Eden hall. In that time, Rikki has become a full time member of our very own legendary NZ band, Th’ Dudes and to cap that off, Rikki has released a solo album called ‘About Time’, his first album for 28 years!
In the words of Rikki himself – here’s the run-down:
This show will coincide with a digital only release of originals from daze gone by. Old singles, B-sides, rarities and demos. This retrospective is called ‘Back In Time’ and will feature not only the 1988 number one hit ‘Nobody Else’, but previously unavailable for streaming hits like ‘Heartbroke’ which won the APRA Silver Scroll in 1991, ‘Come Back Louise’, ‘I Can’t Give You Anything’, as well as unheard songs that have been lovingly archived and mastered in studio.
Rikki will perform with his full band, including Chet O’Connell on guitar, Chip Matthews on bass, Karl Benton on keys and Josh Sorenson on drums. There are bound to be a special guest or too as well!
Rikki’s daughter, up and coming singer/songwriter Oni Kidman, will open the show with a short set of her own originals. Oni has a new EP out over winter, featuring her song ‘Fragile Little Egos’ which placed third in the ‘Unpublished’ category of the 2025 International Songwriting Competition. The ONLY songwriter from New Zealand to make it to a finals category!
Rikki promises all the hits, tracks from his album ‘About Time’, a few surprises, and maybe even a Dudes song!
This is what makes a VillageMusic soirée so special – a really great chance to hear really great kiwi music – up close and intimate, in a truly special old wooden hall.
As always – bring yourself, bring friends, bring family, bring your ears and BYO.
See you at the door. Tickets here.
