October 2023

Dear all,

October is arriving with sunshine and warmth in the forecast. Join us here at the Village Centre … we have classes and events for everyone!

We celebrate the International Day of the Older Persons with a Devonshire Tea and Bingo on Friday 13 October from 10.00am to 12.00noon, followed by live music with Music in Eden from 12.00noon to 1.00pm. Come along and enjoy the companionship and fun! All our community are invited including rest home and retirement village residents. It is free thanks to our wonderful supporters Albert-Eden Local Board, Communicare, Eden Arts and the Mt Eden Business Association. RSVP’s would be helpful but not essential, by 10 October, to 09 631 5968 or email office@communicare.org.nz.

Our epic Bricks 4 Kidz LEGO® STEAM School Holiday Programme continues in the second week of the school holidays. The programme is perfect for 5 to 12 year olds and you can sign up for multiple days or just one. With hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths they will discover robotics and coding, conduct science experiments, and complete exciting master builder challenges! More information and to sign up is here.

The Rest Assured Respite Trust are here on Saturday 7 October from 1.00pm to 3.00pm with Fiona Snijder, an experienced budget advisor from West Auckland Budgeting Service. It is hard living with an illness with the added stress of trying to stretch finances. The Trust welcomes all who are interested in hearing ways to help manage their financial resources. Follow the Trust on Facebook or visit their website for more information.

The Mt Eden Craft Market is here on Saturday 14 October from 9.30am to 3.00pm. The Market has a wide variety of unique, locally handmade products and is a great opportunity to support local artists and find loads of beautiful treasures and tasty treats, perfect for you and to gift. Facebook for more.

The Mt Eden Wellbeing Market will be here in the Hall and Lounge on Saturday 28 October from 10.00am to 3.00pm. The Preloved Fashion Market is here on the same day in the Church from 10.00am to 3.00pm. They are also here tomorrow Saturday 30 September.

Looking ahead to Friday 3 November we have an evening of Brazilian Jazz with the award winning Nanny Assis Band. Fabulous musicians Nanny Assis, Maggie Gould and Kevin Field are just back from New York and will create a relaxing and uplifting evening of Jazz that will take you to Bahia Brazil and back to Mt Eden through Jobim, Stevie Wonder, Ella, American Songbook of Jazz, James Taylor, originals and some dance music. Tickets are here.

Ngā mihi/Best wishes
